The growing need for women to take over or control of leading positions in decision making all over the world or top Jobs is fast becoming a necessity and a priority.

Prove of, is their transparent and accountable management style.

Women by their nature are good managers of homes and institutions. That, the true test of knowledge and time has proven.

Which is why in the days ahead on August 17th, 2023 at the Climate village Upstation under the Canopy of our climate demand Action (CDA) campaign, we shall be launching another grass root woman advocacy program for women empowerment dubbed Women Beyond climate  Limit Action campaign  (WOBECLAC) with mission to empower women with leadership skills and abilities to lead climate change actions and movements.

According to the program best leadership skills and management practice to combat climate crisis can best be coordinated when a woman is at the head, doing the mobilization, execution and control of Finances.

Home Care and climate enhancement measures are best enforced by women.

Which is why Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) thought it wise to coming up with a strong network of grass root women leading in action to combat climate change (WOBECLAC).

"Waste is Wealth" Part II Another Bamenda Plastic Waste Manager in the News

“Waste is Wealth “ Part I Was on Mayor Tanjong Martin and the Tubah Council Plastic Waste Recycling Unit.

The Plastic Waste Recycling Unit and management center for years in Cameroon is known reputed for making gains out of garbage as the Counil intensify her hygiene and sanitation program in the Municipality. The center of late has moved onto training of plastic Waste recyclers and is soon embarking on the building of cheap and affordable Eco friendly class rooms out of plastic in Tubah Sub-Division.

Coming back to our Plastic recycling actor of the day, sad to hear but happy to know and educative as Pa Gentile shares his Wows and joy earning a living out of the “bread basket” of plastic collection and selling in Bamenda.

Hear him as he nurses ambitions to one day become a rich man from the dustbins of the rich while keeping Bamenda clean “I have no other pleasure and passion other than picking my plastic bottles while keeping Bamenda clean to earn a living after serving as night watch for over 20 years with nothing to ride home”.

what we must note in addition is that the said Pa from the West Region precisely from Bangang village of age 60 after over 25 years of night watch with nothing to ride home, voluntarily offered himself to clean the environment and to earn a living out of it.

The elated plastic waste supplier in Bamenda town, happily recounted that "after washing and disinfecting the plastic containers, “I sell five for 100frs CFA”. The amount and the pains to get one plastic container before washing and disinfecting from horrible areas after going distance is so telling of the enormous sacrifice and the selfless services the said individual better still a “ Plastic hero” has decided to put in life to blast plastic pollution and manage plastic for gains.

A father of One son, with a wife resident in the West Region, Pa Gentile funly called at veterinary junction, is happily managing his plastic waste management bin or lot as he calls it, where he earns his daily living or bread.

Not without nursing fear also that one day he may be kicked out of business by recycling companies coming up, or may be short of strength to go picking. In addition, the People of hygiene and sanitation plus taxation may come in to say he is doing a shady, nasty and why not a clandestine business.

Not also waving out the risk involved and insults that accompany the whole picking exercise,. Some of his costumers who buy clean and made affordable plastic containers make him to go and come several times just to get a 100 francs. Yet Pa is Not out of business. Some even end up not paying him throwing slangs, yet make use and capital gains out of the sweat of Pa Gentile a Man who have directly offered himself to nature and to indirectly clear garbage (Plastic Waste) off the streets, the gutters and swamps of Bamenda for daily bread.

“Waste is wealth” As Tubah Council Graduate 1st Batch of Trainees from Waste Recycling Unit

According to Mayor Tanjong Martin of Tubah Council, much can be done out of Waste Management while saving lives and cleaning the environment.

Changing times requires a lot of hygiene and sanitation given the growing need to fight pollution in all it’s forms and waste disposable.

It is as a result that Mayor Tanjong Martin has since championed the course to win war against plastic pollution, waste management and recycling to secure a safe living environment for indigenes of his municipality.

Tubah as a result in Cameroon of late has become the center of biodiversity management and conservation thanks to the mayor’s diverse initiatives to make wealth out of waste.

It is working in that direction and against the backdrop of waste management resilience that the Mayor of Tubah has since set up a plastic Waste Management center that is into the collection, production of pavement bricks and training.

The center, call it unit, uses modern techniques to recycle waste collected from all over the council area by specialized staffs and at times by students on holidays temporary recruited for the purpose.

The center it most be noted,  in it’s ninth year graduated some eight staffs of the Nkor Council on Friday the 30th of June 2023 who had received some eight months effective training to in turn use in their own council area to save nature and Environment from plastic Waste pollution.

On the occasion which brought in high placed authorities presided by DO Metouge NARCISSE of Tubah Sub-Division, the trainees showed and demonstrated  their mastery of the subject matter from the beginning right up to the end of the fabrication of pavement bricks out of plastic recycled.

Moved on the occasion, the DO of Tubah, while encouraging Nkor Council and staffs who took the pain to come for the drilling and training program in his Sub-Division, he challenged all other councils all over the Republic to cease such a golden opportunity to come acquire the same knowledge in Tubah on how to go about enhancing and sustaining plastic Waste Management through recycling for money and the offering of gainful employment.

The Mayor of Tubah, after the handing over of certificates to graduates,  called on all to be good ambassadors and to champion the course against plastic Waste Management in their council area. Saying, it is only through such initiatives that the war against plastic pollution can be won. Adding to the press that, Tubah will soon go beyond just plastic Waste recycling for pavement bricks into building class rooms out of plastics. That he said will be done in collaboration with some of his German partners who have ambitions to carry out and subsidize the building of some class rooms in Tubah using plastic.

The Mayor of Nkor Kongyuy Francis on his part, thanked Tubah Council, a partner in development for showing them the light to plastic Waste Management and sanitation. He took commitment to sell and promote the idea on proper waste management for economic and financial gains to other Council.

This initiative must be commended because it falls in line with this year’s 2023 UN World Environment Day theme “blast plastic pollution” and falls conveniently within  the ambit of “End Plastic Pollution” campaigns which EARTH DAY.org has just kick started world wide.
