That
was in special commemoration of World mother earth day in Bamenda celebrated under
the theme “invest in our planet” calling for people and businesses to work together
towards building a healthy economy for the planet at Blue Pearl Hotel Plaza on Wednesday
the 26th of April 2021, dedicated to nature based solutions actors and
environment specialists.
The occasion
or better still nature and conservation fair was a forum or opportunity to rally
and assemble farmers, groups, Association, CIGs, Cooperatives, local initiative
groups, Eco-businesses etc. to network, brain storm on common ways to work in synergy
to collectively win the war on nature and development.
This
has to go with collective efforts, joint ventures, and the sharing of opportunities
to source for funds and better enhance the advocacy campaigns and practical actions
on the ground.
According
to the organizers of the network fair CAMGEW (Cameroon Gender and Environment Watch),
time has come under the sun for nature based
solutions actors and environment to work hand in gloves and not in dispersed ranks
to better strengthen and enhance their respective course while being gender conscious
and sensitive.
Nature
is demanding action and requires multiple collective actions and efforts well coordinated.
Most
often a time groups and association in their social collectivity and gatherings
with good ideas and programs often lack funding, fail or drop along the way because
of poor approach and communication.
Working
as a union on a common front solidifies the mission of every member in the network.
Which is what according to CAMGEW officials caused the lead NGO on conservation
to regroup colleagues to brainstorm and chart ways forward for a better future and
working opportunities for Cameroon land actors in the nearest future.
Coming
back to the ceremony proper, a battery of NGOs, Associations, CSOs, CIGs, businesses
et-al, 24 in number answered present taking stands where they respectively show cased and exhibited
their products and innovative ideas or initiatives.
There
was a youth network panel discussion on the
theme of the day and subject matter, nature and environment.
A visit
to the stands by the high profile delegation present, followed after a series of
presentation and award of recognitions plus photos shots.
Talking
to the press immediately after, the Executive Director of CAMGEW Mr Wirsy Emmanuel
sounded optimistic and said with authority that the future is gradually becoming
bright for nature conservators in Cameroon if they work in synergy to fight the
common fight which is a common enemy. Adding that, together they shall win the war
on environment, if they sustain their actions, efforts and abilities.
The historic
fair was dubbed, “networking and knowledge sharing fair on mainstreaming gender
in nature based solutions in the Bamenda Western highlands forest area”.
