Dr Eko Eko Filbert South West Regional Delegate of Health
-Over 3000 Persons infected in Four Days, 40 Deaths Recorded so far
-The Signs are, rumbling, running stomach, serious vomiting and coughing
Health reports for the past three days
coming from Fako Division in the South West and some sensitive information leaking
out of some renown boarding schools in the North West Region holds that cholera,
is gradually consuming the population in the areas in question and the multiplying
effects are enormous.
As we report, hospitals in Buea, Limbe,
Idenau and Tiko are over crowded and flooded with the increasing number of patients
coming in for proper medical attention after diagnosis.
In the North West news or information leakage
from some renown boarding schools on group chats, affirms that, after last Saturday’s
open visits, a good number of children have
developed stomach infections and have been vomiting from contaminated food and beverages brought
by parents. Likely signs of cholera infection.
The South West Region’s Regional Delegate
Dr. Eko Eko Filbert's reports as of yesterday the 23rd of March 2022
holds that the number is increasing exponentially and if proper care is not taken
to make quick redress, situation may be uncontrollable in the coming days.
Movements in and out of the already infested
zones are strictly under control as infected cases move from 2000 to 3000.
The cause is water crisis and the disease
in question is water born. The contamination comes from consuming poorly treated
water from unhygienic water sources. Which is not even there because weather problems
and the drying down of major water catchment areas since the rains have over delayed
in coming and the dry season is growing increasingly harsh. All side effects of
climate change.
The government of Cameroon, held captive
by the situation are mobilizing all efforts for tones of pure refined water to be
regularly supplied in the identified areas in question and for fast containing emergency
actions to be instituted around the areas.
What is clear for now is that contamination
is constant and a mobile medical brigade must be sent out as fast as possible for
quick and early sensitization or the days ahead may be seriously red all over Cameroon
as there is already information of cross Regional transmission as fast vaccination
exercises are also going on.
