Opening of Memve’ele Dam in October, to Curb Electricity Shortage in Cameroon

The end of construction of electricity transmission line between Nyabizan and Yaounde, which will allow the evacuation of the energy produced by the Memve’ele Dam (211MW) is announced for this October.

In the news this days, the completion of work on the energy evacuation site, will allow the Memve ele Dam whose works were completed Seven years ago, to  pomp in 150 MW into the southern interconnected network (SIN). Which provides electrical energy to six Regions out of the ten Cameroon has. The energy capacity it must be noted, shall only be fully operational by this October 2022 according to government precision.

The production of this hydroelectricity plant from all indication, comes to rescue Cameroon’s electricity shortage crisis amidst seasonal and consistent black out in certain areas.

The advent of Memve’ele will curb usage of fuel which is very expensive to run the electricity thermal plant. Which much at times is not even enough and of quality to carry the plant.
