SDF and Fru Ndi Deserves a Huge Pat on the Back and not Blames at 32

-Disguised crooks in party garments for the past years have made rubbish of the authenticity and credibility of the SDF and it’s National Chairman with their nonchalant attitudes not Fru Ndi perce bearer of the great vision.

-Ni John Fru Ndi Deserve Praises and Respect Now, Not Disrespect and Barrel of Blames and accusations.

“Why dispose or disown better still vomit your own brother, father and grand father for that matter” is the premise we are coming from to vindicate Fru Ndi this time in the hands of gullible individuals. There is nobody in Cameroon who has suffered in the hands of ungrateful fellows and persecution from all a sundry as an opposition leader than Ni John Fru Ndi.

Fru Ndi and his party has been used and dumped by many a people, not only the founding fathers of the party worst of it all, the same youths he opened their eyes, fought for their liberty and gave them room to freely talk and express their grievances in a country then that knew no iota of democracy and freedom.

Today he is now the target, victim of not only circumstance but deliberate and direct humiliation and why not open threats and intimidation.

True to what I am saying, Fru Ndi was chased from fish pond hill and food market by angry youths, he was kidnapped by separatists forces, part of his Ntarikon residences burnt, the one in Baba II burnt down to ashes, his brother kidnapped, his cows stolen and farms in Wum ramshackle, his personal properties in town under threat even his family wanted.

We are all living witnesses to the fact that all Fru Ndi’s properties and estates are heavily guarded for fear of the unknown. The unknown coming from the very persons he groomed, feed, they grew and developed mussels and today they are now flexing it on him.

How on earth can the Bamenda Man be so ungrateful, the same people he gave power to the people, using his party in the early 90s, the same boys he marched with his parliamentarians in the streets of Buea and Bamenda calling government to listen to them have today vomited him and has posed as a permanent threat to his political career.

Coming back to the real enemies in the house, from all what is going on within the party (internal party wrangles), it is now crystal clear that from day one, 70% if not all who joined the party were black legs and had secret agendas starting with the Mbah Ndams to the Wirba click and today the Nieutche and Joshua cabal who do not only want the entire party but Fru Ndi’s head after tarnishing the great reputation of the party all around, with horrible intrigues all around.

Come to see them at Ntarikon in the early days of the party when they were still seeking for Pa’s attention desperately and hear all the accolades and cajoling words lavished on him, “Daddy, Daddy”  today after feeding fat and tasting power, they have suddenly come to know their rights and will not allow a common book seller trample on their rights or tell them what to do. Daddy the father has suddenly become Daddy the devil  who is old, worn out and must go.

If what I am saying is a lie,  was Fru Ndi not openly humiliated by party officials in the West, Littoral, part of the Northern Region, by boycotting his call for militants to turn out in their mass to celebrate 2022 May 20 under the influence of the same party leaders who pass disguised as Angels before Ni John?

Another gang, are a host of activists abroad who have never and will never see or want to hear of anything good coming from Fru Ndi or mentioned about Fru Ndi.

Even if authority is to forget a dying king that is not how Fru Ndi is supposed to be paid back. Come to hear them when they seat with Fru Ndi’s name in petty corners, if Fru Ndi is not Satan in human form, he is the lucifa. But come to see them playing the tortoise or chameleon around him in pretense.

What has Fru Ndi not seen or heard of with his own ears and very own eyes from fellow members of his party and the regime that is not tarnishing and humiliating. The serial attacks have even gone to the extend that NEC and Exco members are sponsoring  and calling for individual or collective attacks on the person of the chairman.

We are not saying here that Joe Ntarikon is perfect we are just honestly bringing to the lime light what and who has made mockery of the Party and let’s stop pointing fingers on Fru Ndi.

All the wrong decisions Fru Ndi took as they now claim was directly or indirectly coordinated by them. All the attacks on the party and Fru Ndi was masterminded by same militants. Those who are loyal to Fru Ndi today are those who have no way out, others who have left corridors of power do not have his time and the interest of the party.

If SDF is dying today all Cameroonians contributed to kill it most especially the bad advisers who surrounded Fru Ndi then and have today thrown him to wolves to Yelp. The use and dump syndrome of dishonest politicians is what is gradually burying SDF.

In shame and frustration, the National chairman of SDF has to burry his head while alive as he sees the very same people he trusted and entrusted power to openly backstabbing him in public.

Where Fru Ndi is, he is hooked with the palaver on who to be quite the thrown of SDF now that all his close aids have shown their true colors and none is now to be trusted amongst them.

What we are saying is that Fru Ndi has suffered the highest persecution, died and buried alive by his very own trusted thugs. By now Fru Ndi should or have to come to the conclusion that he is surrounded by pretenders and crooks. In this case is Fru Ndi to be Blamed? People should leave Pa to rest and how on earth could you and I ever have believed that Pa will accomplish his political career surrounded by a bundle of bloody liars and dishonest fellows.

There is no gain saying or over belaboring the point, all those damaging the reputation of SDF should back out for the future of the party to be brought back on rails by true, sincere and honest militants.

How I wish Ni John Fru Ndi would have been enjoying a quiet rest at his Ntarikon residence in his late 80s, but it is unfortunate that he is today battling with snails in SOA all because of persecution and threats from his very henchmen and thugs he feed fat.

The Colbert Factor:What if mama Regina Mundi were a blackleg?

Muteff may be a little known local village kaleidoscope, but things that happen there are sometimes of far more greater significance than the world might have cared to know.

Situated off the jaws of Abuh Valley in Fundong Sub Division, Boyo Division of North West Region, Muteff waged a feracious war of independence from mainland Abuh in the Mid 70s.  Although the immediate cause of the conflict was Abuh community's adamant refusal to allow Muteff have a junior primary school where children from distant Muteff attend until maturity before they cross over to complete in the main school in Abuh, the remote cause was the aged-old quarrel over who goes home with the head goat from the 'nchong' secret fraternity.

The almost three year prolonged conflict that saw Muteff children all withdrawn from the lone school in the Valley, CBC Abuh, as a sign of protest and dogged determination by Muteff to stand up to the marginalization and discrimination of Abuh leadership, saw Abuh community claiming and shouting on rooftops how Abuh with Muteff as a quarter, was one and indivisible, and so shall remain.

Muteff did not only forcefully withdraw its membership from the Abuh Union but also forbid any person from Muteff to have anything doing with Abuh community, not even burial ceremonies, not even church attendance.

Despite the deadly threats, certain individuals in Muteff did not believe it was of any earthly use to breakaway from mainland Abuh. They swore on their honour that Muteff could never be an independent village from Abuh, and continued representing Muteff at the Abuh traditional Council at other institutions. They judged that their withdrawal wouldn't make much of a difference as Abuh could as well just select people of Muteff origin, already settled in Abuh, and continue to brandish them as representatives of Muteff quarter.

One of them was a certain Yindo Tange. Each time rebellious Muteff community resolved on a plan of action, he would quickly move over to Laikom, the seat of the Kom palace and to Abuh village head's compound and disclose it to them. After dinning and winning with those considered by Muteff as standing on their way to independence, he would truimphantly return to Muteff by evening and narrate to everyone that cared to listen how he has exposed the evil machinations of Muteff against Abuh unity and how such plans have already been nipped in the bud.

The arrogantly vocal Yindo Tange would even dare Muteff village strategists by searching for where they were drawing their plans, tell them to their faces how they were just wasting their precious time as the Kom Fon and Fundong Administration had reassured Abuh village chief that Muteff would never be independent.

Although many in Muteff were of the opinion that Yindo Tange's provocations were always one too many and that eliminating him could facilitate the independence of Muteff village, the foresighted strategists within Muteff resolved he simply be ignored as the energy that would be wasted in eliminating him could have been used to improve their argument for independence. Their infinite wisdom had informed them that eliminating Yindo Tange could give Abuh, Laikom and Fundong Administration justification to defer their independence struggle.

Satisfied that those for the independence of Muteff were in the majority and those within Muteff that supported the oneness and indivisibility of Abuh village were a negligible minority only aligning with Abuh because of their stomarchs, the larger Muteff community decided to ignore the 'blacklegs', referred to then in Muteff as 'Party 1', with pro-independentists referred to as 'Party 2'.

By the time Muteff village had surmounted all the challenges by skillfully convincing the Kom traditional Authority and Fundong Administration of the aged-old bad faith of Abuh, and they resolved on Muteff independence from Abuh, Yindo Tange was surprisingly the first person to come to the Muteff market square to reveal the information to a jubilant Muteff community.

He insisted it was thanks to his loyalty to mainstream Abuh leadership and the Kom palace, that Muteff was finally considered ripe for independence. He gave to understanding that since Muteff community was no longer on talking terms with Abuh leadership and Kom palace, the only authentic information about the grievances of Muteff against Abuh village could come only from him. His non-violent approach toward mainland Abuh, he claimed, worked in favour of the independence of Muteff village.

To him, although he was publicly violent against promoters of Muteff independence, he always found time in private to school the Kom palace and Abuh leadership on why Muteff needed to be a stand alone community.

Consider Senator Regina Mundi in the case of former Southern Cameroons' independence struggle to be Yindo Tange, in the case of Muteff. Although unlike Yindo Tange, mama Regina Mundi, is not recorded to have publicly denounced those fighting for greater autonomy of former West Cameroon from mainland, there certainly exist tons of verifiable secret correspondences from her to the CPDM Central Committee and the Presidency, on the fact that the current conflict be quickly resolved, with former West Cameroon having greater autonomy.

Unlike Yindo Tange who continued to cling unto Abuh just for his survival, Senator Regina Mundi's reason to get into the senate was not only to use it as a platform to privately articulate the concerns of her people, but more importantly, to mobilize resources to take care of the downtrodden back home. Like Robert Wood who stole from the rich and give to the poor, Senator Regina Mundi had since entering the senate in 2018, literarily been 'stealing' from the rogue Government in Yaounde to give back to the vulnerable pregnant mothers, orphans, widows and other categories of individuals back in her constituency.

During the recent visit to Cameroon's Heritage Higher Institute for Peace and Development Studies, by former South African Aparthied Chief negotiator, Roelf Meyer, it was revealed that he was one of Frederick de Klerk's strategists in growing the Aparthied genocidal regime that imprisoned Nelson Mandela for 27 years. Yet, he was still the one insider who brought reason to bare on the white minority rule, to start negotiations with the black majority leaders that led to Mandela becoming first South African black President in 1994.

Those keeping Mama Regina Mundi would do the struggle a favour by seeing in her the future Roelf Meyer. Added to her being an accomplished grand mother who has nothing to loose in speaking truth to the Yaounde regime, Regina Mundi, like Roelf Meyer, could be the Yindo Tange to fast-track the Southern Cameroons' greater autonomy struggle.

By the way, how on earth would someone think the withdrawal or elimination of Mama Regina Mundi, could be a plus to the independence struggle? How could people who have since 2017 been claiming to be winning 'fatly' suddenly turn around to give the impression the likes of the Regina Mundis were the obstacles to their independence? Are they not now behaving like the scribes in the book of Mathew 17:11-12, who even though Jesus was already with them, continued to deny he was the Messiah on grounds it was written that Elijah must first come?

Like Jesus who upon hearing the worries of the scribes through the apostles replied: 'Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, that Elias is already come, and they knew him not.'  Could it not be that independence would come, but activists would still not see because they think it must come in the 2nd Republic, and in flesh?

Are those activists and fighters permanently agreeing to disagree not the true blacklegs  who are derailing the struggle? If they were united and speaking with one voice rather than fighting to outsmart and outdistance each, would 1000 Mundis be anything to stand on their path?

MINFI: Cameroon's Debts Stands at 11.456 Billion as of March 2022

Cameroon's Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze

11,456 billion CFA francs is the amount of the debt of the State of Cameroon underscored in March 2022. This debt is made up of 92.5% which is a direct debit of the central administration and 7.4% of public companies’ debt. The information is from the general manager of the Autonomous Sinking Fund, ASF , in an interview published by the Cameroon tribune last Monday, May 23, 2022.

According to Richard Evina Obam , the direct debit of the central administration amounts to approximately 10,593 billion CFA francs or 41.6% of GDP. It has increased by 1.0% compared to the previous quarter and by 8.2% year-on-year. This outstanding amount comes from debt from external creditors estimated at 72.1% and from debt from domestic lenders. To this, it would be necessary to include those left to be paid dating from more than three months.

The director of ASF continues by giving an estimate of the direct debit of public companies at the end of March 2022. It is around 860 billion CFA francs or 3.4% of GDP. Unlike the central government debt, this was down 0.7% from the previous quarter and 1.4% year-on-year. This debt is 53.4% due to external creditors and 46.6% to internal partners.

According to Richard Evina Obam , the increase in the debt of the State of Cameroon finds its explanation in the commitment of Cameroon to the realization of infrastructural projects since 2010. To carry out these projects aimed at the economic development of Cameroon, the government has chosen to resort to public debt.

Veritas: 2022 Cameroon BAR Election; “Why it’s but Normal for Powers to Move to the South West or Given to A Lady” for Gender Sake

BCM Ebah Ntoko Justice South West Lawyers Flag Bearer for Bar Presidency

It has always been the North West and the routine has always been the North West. History holds it on good records that from the very onset of the creation of the Cameroon Bar in the early 70s,(1974), that office has consistently and persistently been headed by lawyers from North West Province and lastly Region by Barrister Sama Francis.

Should North West take home that prestigious post again on the 18th of June 2022 with Barrister Mbah Eric running with Barrister Duga Titanji from the same Region? she will  be offering the 6th President in a line up of 14 legal minds who have held that post since creation. We are talking of the Pioneer President, Fon Gorji Dinka, Barrister Ben Muna, Luke Sendze, Akere Muna and Barrister Sama Francis of late.

After the all memorable era or days of Barrister Eta Besong Junior South West has been on break for long. 2022 comes with the unique opportunity for the South West to take the upper hand to revamp and reanimate a one time dormant Bar under Patie Tchakoute.

NOWELA (North West Lawyers Association) as against FAKLA (South West Lawyers Association) to be frank has donated quite a good number of Bar Presidents and it is but normal this time for NOWELA to give FAKLA that God given opportunity.

If for all these while South West Lawyers have thrown their weight behind North West Lawyers for them to pick the crown of the Cameroon Bar consistently, it is but normal this time around, for North West Lawyers to front for a South Westerner in the midst of increasing pressure from their Francophone counterparts to enable the flag of common law fly high in Cameroon like that of the UN in the world. Meaning if all Anglophones rally behind an Anglophone, which is not even the case, they will affront their rivals strongly.

Barrister Sama Francis handed the baton to  a Francophone Charlse Patie and it is but normal that power should rotate and most necessarily move to the South West.

The Cameroon Bar knows quite a good number of authoritative names in the South West that have made it in the Cameroon legal system or before the courts and deserves a better place at most, this time in the Bar.

South West Lawyers without mincing words will only have their own faire share of the cake, if given the push factor and the moral booster by it’s North West counterparts as campaigns deepens.

Not giving the South West a chance to head the Bar gives the lee way or opens the door for another Francophone lawyer to take up Presidency most especially as they have at the head of their campaign lists a very powerful and instrumental go getting Barrister, Ngoulla Alertte Fotso the “Margaret Thatcher” of the house.

A lady for that matter who has tried her hands severally to take up Presidency to no avail. Her coming in this time should be with full force, leaving no stone unturned.

Any mistake, by men Lawyers, I mean from the North West and South West Maitre Ngoulla Alertte Fotso will grab that prestigious office through a slide victory as a woman. Given that it will also be a unique opportunity for the voices of women to be over heard in the Bar for gender sake.

Coming back to FAKLA (Fako Lawyers Association) the one Billion dollar (1$b) question is amongst the cream of Lawyers contesting who carries the mandate, the mantle and benediction of all South West Lawyers Association?

BCM Ebah Ntoko Justice an experienced member of the Bar Council for over 10 years, who believe in the adage that “WHAT BRINGS US TOGETHER IS STRONGER THAN WHAT SEPARATES US”. Stands out tall for now comparatively amongst all other aspirants following his legacies at the helm of FAKLA and in his career as a legal practitioner of exceptional class.

The former CCASTERIAN born in the second half of early sixties, heads Justice Law Firm Mutengene a renown law firm that speaks for itself.

He bears as vision, to strengthen the Bar, seek her Monopoly and source for her Independence.

Adding to his great vision, he has plans to open a law school to ease entrance exams and proper training of lawyers.

Coming back to the stakes of the grande conclave;

The real match encounter is between Barrister Ebah Ntoko Justice and Maitre Ngoulla Alertte Fotso. And if Anglophones dare make the error to pick the office of the President of the General Assembly first, the Presidency of the Bar will automatically go to a Francophone.

Where we are the aspirants are many just like the camps. Division, double dealing and the game of interest will not play favorably well for Anglophone lawyers. Guess what, all the shady deals played by Anglophones may end up playing favorably for Maitre Ngoulla Alertte a female legal right advocate for over 30 years who has the money and is ready to spend to rescue the Bar. Not some of the loud sounding aspirants who are not ready to spend a frank. A Good gospel without money does not give listening ears.

Money has now taken central stage of the campaign whether the public like it or not and it is money speaking and it is now the air ticket to decipher where each lawyer belongs ahead of the grande rendezvous.

The Aspect of Gender

Going by records since 1974 a female lawyer has rarely found her rightful place in the Cameroon Bar. We are all aware that attempts were made by some but could not reach the peak. Even the Maitre Ngoulla Alertte in question we are talking of tried her hand eight years back (2015) but could not sail through. But this time you will bear with this analyst that she is not coming “in bear and empty handed” meaning she is coming in with full force.

Not only that, she is coming at a time when world forces of diplomacy are clamoring for the representation of more women in high offices. Note should also be taken that with the caliber of female lawyers we have in this generation, nothing should be taken for granted from any of them.

Who is Maitre Ngoulla Alertte Fotso

The bearer of the campaign slogan “Together we will Arrive” or attain our goals, The “Margaret Thatcher Tasha” of the house cum Iron Lady, is a seasoned Lawyers from Douala, holder of a Masters degree in Business law, retainer of most big financial institutions in Cameroon and abroad. She is a lawyer with integrity, high moral standing and of the exceptional class.

Inside Out of the Staged Babungo, Muokang Chieftaincy Drama by Gullible Individuals

Chief Bajoh Bihai III of Muokang Village

Crying Out Loud For God’s Sake; “Demon Fowlers Should Leave Chief Bajoh Bihai III of Muokang Village and Fon Ndofoa Zofoa III of Babungo Village Alone, Peace is in the Offing”

Too much of a thing becomes a disease and  “ Let sleeping dogs lie”. People must say, even what is not in your mind, but life is not all about grinding axe as those with sleepless night may want to think and condition. Trouble mongers should allow Bajoh and Ndofoa's names to rest.

Fon Ndofoa Zofoa III of Babungo village

The manipulation so far concerning the Babungo Muokang palaver which to our knowledge was long ironed  out and peace talks settled to take place before June 30rd this year at the Vengo Queen mother’s shrine (Ifung Mange) is taking another dimension because backbiters  and money mongers have landed back on it with full force.

Let’s have it straight, whosoever is fomenting or cooking up what? For whatever reasons? For their attention, stories about the rift crisis between both brothers are stale and there are plans underground to sort out their basic differences already and nothing will stop or challenge it.

If the situation have gone wayward or this far, we are holding some, if not all accountable but it is never too late to take a “U” turn. All the senseless arguments and justifications by outsiders will not help the two parties out of their ideological differences. But God is in total control.

Let it be clear for public attention and for those who are out to be poisoning the minds of people, both parties are on a rigorous amicable settlement plan which is underground to sort out their differences.

Fon Bajoh Bihai III was not made kingmaker and Fon out of social media reports or fictitious or framed “panabitted” court rulings or verdicts? Thank God non of the two Fons concerned has openly responded to all the sources of provocations and distractions meaning they are reasonably focused on their path to reconciliation.

Coming back to the subject proper or matter;

The venerated Fon of Muokang Village history has it on good records that he has never had any personal problem with the thrown of Babungo or the Fon (Fon Ndofoa Zofoa III). All they had were slide differences which is typical and peculiar of all the 13 villages that make up Ngoketunjia Division.

Dini Ngoe and Kuela Valerie Norbert came and tactfully handled the matter only for the flames of the Anglophone Crisis under a new leadership to come and reignite the situation misled by some misguided individuals.

This is the truth and nothing but the truth in the phase of the increasing mix up between both brothers, social media and some malicious individuals took advantage of growing tension to blow the matter out of proportion creating camps and fanning chaos.

Chaos and confusion that has since sink the cordial and filial love that existed between both brothers.

Today because of the differences, wolves have since taken advantage and are ceasing the least opportunity or statement to make hell out of the matter and fanning chaos all over the kingdom.

Proof of this, recently a purported or supposed ruling passed at the Mezam administrative court this May 2022 has since gone viral and is still making negative news head lines around town,  down playing on the reputation of the Fon of Muokang charging him for usurpation and threats of dethroning the Fon of Babungo.

Dear readers if you read well all the articles along the line you will bear with this investigative reporter that the whole show is a cooked up arrangement meant to continue hitting the heads of both brothers to meet selfish ends.

Come to think about it, how can a ruling be passed on a matter already with drawn from court on the 1st of March 2022 two months after, see document below;

The Withdrawn Court Case order against the SDO of Ngoketunjia

Those fanning the so much noise or flames and smoke on all media platforms should show the ruling that was never passed.

The Fon of Babungo has never been at daggers drawn with Chief Bajoh his brother over his throne. The simple misunderstanding boils down to the problem of identification and recognition not even usurpation or threats of dethronement.

We are now living in a diabolic and a very vicious circle where malicious individuals with devilish intention are tempted in all given situations concerning Babungo to call a spoon a spade or white red.

To keep poisoning the minds of the public. The whole show has suddenly become an agenda setting. But before the gate of hell the truth shall prevail.

This brings to mind what the people of the opposite bench are praying for if not evil war amongst the two parties concerned. Which will never come to pass in Jesus name.

Late last year (5th December 2021) Chief Bajoh Bihai with the Muokang community on a second thought programmed a series of Peace building talks and program slated for June 2022 and December respectively and all this is ongoing without notice because many are blind folded to keep thinking that thing should still be asunder or should remain asunder between both brothers.

The Peace stride Chief Bajoh and Muokang community has embarked on since 2021 for peace to reign between him and the brother Fon Ndofoa

But the unshakable Fon Bajoh amidst all odds from all indication has maintained his stands to work tirelessly for peace to reign to the chagrin of all those machinating trouble and confusion in the kingdom.

The fire works must end and all those who are blind folded in the mix up will be wrapped up at the end.

Intrigues and blackmail has never paid, it is for the strong and will never in the history of mankind pay anybody. In this matter the gates of hell shall never prevail.

Outsiders should bark out of this issues already in the process of settlement concerning these two son of the soil for they both have their individual scores to settle with the gods of the land and no other intruder.

It is funny and challengingly very disgraceful that sons and daughters of the land are at the center of all the confusion. But God’s time is the best.

What joy is there, fomenting and planting the seed of havoc during these perilous times or moment?

Intellectual dishonesty has played honorably to land the Babungo Muokang wahala where it is. Supposed her leaders were quick to decipher the manigance ensued, they would have long sink their differences.

But it is never too late, never say never. The enlightened class as we report are favorably for an immediate conclave of both parties to seat on the same table and speak out their differences.

The time to shame the devil is now.

I come in peace and to throw the light of Divine Grace and the glimpse of hope to a mass whose elementary differences have been exploited so far for self aggrandizement by gullible individuals.

The gate  of hell shall never prevail amongst these two loving brothers. Let love lead. Shalom

“Tomorrow is a whole mystery, since each and every one of us do not know how tomorrow will look like, we should not do things today that will offend tomorrow. Your greatest enemy today may be your Divine helper tomorrow. Don't judge people by their actions and character today and conclude” I rest my case with these wise word from late Prophet TB Joshua of  Blessed memory.

Deepening Anglophone Cameroon Liberation War of Independence; “Genuine and Inclusive Dialogue, only Way out”

People in Cameroon are suffering and paying a price when there is a solution, says former South African Cabinet minister Roelf Meyer

Says Roelf Meyer South African former cabinet Minister, cum chief apartheid negotiator and international peace crusader. This figure's contributions in the peaceful talks and negotiations that ensued in the 80s and early 90s that led to the end of the nefarious apartheid system in South Africa cannot be undermined in history.

Hear him, “The ongoing crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon are largely surmountable but the government needs to prioritize genuine and inclusive dialogue as a matter of urgency”.

Speaking to the press on the occasion of his special visit to Cameroon in April to Pan African Vision Magazine/ World Echoes Newspaper, he most outlined in the exclusive interview on the need for frank, open, genuine, honest and sincere dialogue as only way out of the intensified worsening barbaric conflict in “Ambazonia”

Exclusive Interview in it's Entirety;

You visited Cameroon in April, your first visit to that country in which an armed conflict currently pits the Cameroon government against non-state armed groups in the North West and South West Regions, formerly known as British Southern Cameroons. Is this a sign that you and your organisation are interested in contributing to end that conflict?

Roelf Meyer: In 2013, I co-founded In Transformation Initiative in South Africa to share our South African experience with people and countries in conflict situations around the world.  We have been very successful in many countries because of interest in the South African experience of how we changed insurmountable conflict, especially in the late 1980s, into a situation where we could make a peaceful transition from a dictatorial state to a democratic state. In fact, we have shared that experience in several countries around the globe including on the African continent, and recently I was asked by a well-respected Cameroonian to take interest in the conflict in the country. Thus, in April, I had the privilege of visiting Cameroon for the first time; it was a brief visit that lasted a few days in Yaounde and Douala. The main purpose was to speak about peace building and development in two academic institutions.

Current South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Roelf Meyer were key actors in the process that ushered in a new South Africa, there are plenty of lessons that could help Cameroon from that experience ,says Meyer

Although this was your first visit to Cameroon, were you able to take the pulse on the conflict beyond your speaking engagements in the two academic institutions?

Roelf Meyer: I had the opportunity while in Yaoundé and Douala to speak to individuals who have close knowledge of the conflict in Cameroon. I received a broader understanding of the conflict and what is going wrong. One thing that struck me was the level of violence that prevails and unfortunately is not known to the outside world.  I think it is important that the international community take note of what is happening there to try and support a process that will bring the violence to an end.  The unnecessary killing of people, mostly civilians, who have been drawn into the conflict is unnecessary and unacceptable.  I also tried to get a better understanding of the underlying factors behind the current bloodshed and unnecessary violent conflict.  You may remember that we experienced enormous political violence in South Africa before the release of President Nelson Mandela from prison in 1990, and even after his release. Listening to various individuals in-between the speaking engagements, I and my fellow Director of In Transformation Initiative, Mr Junior John, both left Cameroon feeling we could perhaps draw on our South African and other experiences on our continent and globally to help resolve the conflict, but we will have to see how the situation unfolds.

Given your contribution as lead negotiator with current South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for the release of Nelson Mandela and the end of apartheid in your country, do you believe Cameroonians could draw any lessons from the South African experience?

Roelf Meyer: I think Cameroonians could draw from the lessons that we learned from the South African case. Surely, each conflict has its characteristics and has to be respected for its uniqueness, but certain basic principles do however apply across country specificities.  For example, we succeeded in South Africa to build a wholly inclusive peace process; all relevant parties that were part of the conflict participated in the dialogue and eventual negotiation that led to a peaceful transition from apartheid to democracy. The second was that we succeeded in building trust across the divide that existed. For example, President Cyril Ramaphosa was the chief negotiator for the African National Congress (ANC), the leading anti-apartheid movement, and I was privileged to be the chief negotiator for the government of President De Klerk; and the two of us succeeded in building a bridge between us first of all – we developed trust between us which was hugely instrumental in resolving the South African conflict.  The third factor is the fact that we succeeded in taking responsibility and ownership of the problem that we had to resolve. We accepted that it was our conflict and we accepted that we had the responsibility to resolve it. It was a mutual commitment from the opposing sides to indeed contribute to resolving the conflict such that we also accepted mutual responsibility for the outcome.

The callous killings are unnecessary Meyer says ,as he urges the international community do more in helping to push for peace and a lasting solution to the conflict

You were also Minister of Constitutional Affairs, first under President Frederick De Klerk and later under President Nelson Mandela; so would you say certain constitutional models are more amenable to guarantee peace, social justice and human dignity, and prevent conflict? What would be the main characteristics of such constitutional arrangements in a country like Cameroon with a very diverse history and culture, and now going through an armed conflict because of those same factors?

Roelf Meyer: The three factors I mentioned above are all key in helping to resolve the conflict in Cameroon. In the South African case, for example, the one thing that fundamentally helped us to resolve the South African differences was that we accepted that the future South Africa that we had to create had to be built on accepting individual rights on an equal basis for all, to ensure that blacks and whites could live together as equal individuals in a future South Africa. That was the fundamental factor that contributed; we did not see ourselves as the black majority and white minority but as equal individuals, and that foundation is in the constitution that we have today which was negotiated between the opposing parties.  That constitution was also the main contributing factor to find a settlement in our conflict and help us to transition from an authoritarian regime like apartheid was to a democratic government which we have had in South Africa since 1994.

Based on your experience in South Africa and engagements in many conflict resolution initiatives around the world, and on your preliminary conversations thus far, how do you think the ongoing conflict in the North West and South West regions or what some people refer to as former British Southern Cameroons or Ambazonia can be resolved?

Roelf Meyer: Yes, I think it is possible to draw from other experiences including that of South Africa in addressing the Anglophone conflict in Cameroon. In my mind, the starting point of the resolution of any conflict is to establish the basis for talks. It often starts with ‘talks about talks’, then the real talks, and then you get to a situation of dialogue which flows into negotiations that address the situation and root causes. If this method can be followed in the case of Cameroon, it is most likely that the starting point is there but also a possible path to an acceptable outcome.  Time is also of the essence, and there’s urgency in stopping the bloodshed and further alienation.

AM: Having been Minister of Defence earlier in your career, when you compare the situation you had to grapple with within South Africa, and what obtains in Cameroon today, what are some of the similarities that you see and how challenging can it be to get a solution that meets the expectation of conflicting parties?

Roelf Meyer: In terms of my experience as Minister of Defence, let me emphasize that I was Minister of Defence after the dialogue and negotiations already started in South Africa – my task as Minister of Defence was therefore to lead the process of negotiations within the military so as to address the issue of integration in the military and the paramilitary of the liberation movements.  That process was started during my tenure as Minister of Defence and from that experience, I can say some similarities need to be addressed although there are also unique features of the Cameroonian conflict in that regard.  In the South African experience, we deployed a very strong military response to uphold the powers of the minority white regime in South Africa, but this too had to be addressed during the negotiations. We successfully integrated the different military and institutional forces but also the paramilitary from the liberation movements. And the day that Nelson Mandela was sworn in as the first democratically elected president of South Africa, by his side was the chief of the military of the former apartheid regime which shows how effective that process of integration and successful transition took place in the South African case.

In a conflict of this nature where there has been so much bloodshed, distrust, pain and suffering, divergent views, fragmented groups, vested interests for some actors on both sides and so many other complexities, what would typically be a starting point for addressing  the root causes and what other logical steps would follow suit?

Roelf Meyer: In my view, the only real solution to the crisis is genuine, inclusive dialogue, and I can say that from the South African case that was our experience. We are, based on the South African experience, big advocates for dialogue as the real instrument to bring about change and to resolve conflict and I would say for the case of Cameroon, that is what is required. Looking at starting points, it often has to start with discrete talks meaning below the radar; only a few people may know about efforts to test the water and laying the foundation before actually getting into it. That is what happened in the South African case with some talks taking place between the apartheid government and Nelson Mandela while he was still in prison and the same with the exiled leaders of the liberation movements.  There were ‘talks about talks’ even three or four years before the actual process started after the release of President Mandela. Maybe that is something that can help us to address the situation in Cameroon.  I understand that some of that may already have occurred in diverse forms — the process of talks that could lead to better understanding, preparing the ground with confidence building measures, testing the waters and then eventually delving into dialogue and negotiations to reach mutually acceptable positions for the opposing sides. Watching the situation from the outside, it seems to me that the conflict in Cameroon is not insurmountable in terms of seeking a solution, and one has to address the complexities mentioned one by one and then the result and solution will follow.

With your very rich personal and professional experience, should you and South Africa, which remains a giant on the continent, be called upon to help seek a lasting solution to the conflict in Cameroon; would you and the country consider that possibility?

Roelf Meyer: It is early for me to say whether South Africa or myself can play a role. I think it depends on how things evolve within the next several weeks or few months. I don’t think it is opportune now to say outright ‘yes’ to the question. We must keep in mind that South Africa is a non-interested player as far as the sub region is concerned. South Africa has not been directly impacted by the conflict in Cameroon and that is, I think, quite a neutral, objective, and independent posture as far as the conflict is concerned.  For that reason, it could play a constructive role which also describes my own position if I were to take further interest in helping the situation in Cameroon. For now, I would like to wish the people of Cameroon well in their endeavor to find solutions to the conflict. Like I said, one of the most important lessons from the South African experience is that we took ownership and responsibility and, yes, some advisers and people shared their experiences with us but in the end, we internalized the fact that it was our conflict in South Africa and that we had to resolve it through negotiations, and that is exactly what we did.
