Heavy
rains hit the South West Region of Cameroon on March 18, 2023, causing severe
flooding, mass distruction of properties and some human lost especially in Bova
village in Buea.
The rains
in it’s heavy quantity coming across mass obstruction on its run off track, had
to lost track and has since caused a lot of havoc down Buea town as the floods empties
itself.
Several
residents are missing following this natural disaster. The authorities and the
rescuers are hard at work to help the victims and find the missing people.
Bova village, located near Buea, was badly
affected by the heavy rains since it along the run off tracks. The floods
caused significant material damages and has since disrupted the daily life of
the inhabitants. Roads have been cut off, making access to disaster areas
difficult and complicating relief operations.
The
local authorities, in collaboration with the emergency services and
humanitarian organizations, are mobilized to come to the aid of the victims of
this disaster. Temporary accommodation has been set up to accommodate the
victims, and food is distributed to affected families.
As the search and rescue operation continues, The authorities encourage residents to report any information that could help rescuers in their search.
In
order to prevent future disasters, the authorities are studying the
possibilities of improving infrastructure and warning systems in risk areas.
Raising people's awareness of what to do in the event of flooding is also
crucial to limit the consequences of these extreme climatic events.
The
heavy rains that affected Buea and the Bova village in the South West of
Cameroon highlight the need to strengthen prevention and warning systems in the
face of natural disasters. Solidarity and mutual aid are essential to help
those affected to overcome this difficult ordeal.
