Opening of Memve’ele Dam in October, to Curb Electricity Shortage in Cameroon

The end of construction of electricity transmission line between Nyabizan and Yaounde, which will allow the evacuation of the energy produced by the Memve’ele Dam (211MW) is announced for this October.

In the news this days, the completion of work on the energy evacuation site, will allow the Memve ele Dam whose works were completed Seven years ago, to  pomp in 150 MW into the southern interconnected network (SIN). Which provides electrical energy to six Regions out of the ten Cameroon has. The energy capacity it must be noted, shall only be fully operational by this October 2022 according to government precision.

The production of this hydroelectricity plant from all indication, comes to rescue Cameroon’s electricity shortage crisis amidst seasonal and consistent black out in certain areas.

The advent of Memve’ele will curb usage of fuel which is very expensive to run the electricity thermal plant. Which much at times is not even enough and of quality to carry the plant.

Cameroon Source for 23 Billion Indian Loan to Redress Water Crisis Situation in Yaounde

The Cameroonian government announced it is seeking $35.16 million, or a little more than CFA23 billion, from Eximbank India to renew Yaoundé's water distribution system. The information was reported in a recent note by the Minister of Economy, Alamine Ousmane Mey.

The project will allow the supply and installation of 348 km of tertiary network, we learned. In his letter, the member of the government indicated that, in addition to the extension of the network from the Sanaga River, this project will also allow the creation of 29,248 individual connections. A commercial contract worth $41,337,527 (CFA27.12 billion, according to the current exchange rate) was signed on June 14, 2022, with the Indian company WPIL Limited for the implementation of the said project.

This new initiative is an extension of the project to supply drinking water to Yaoundé from the Sanaga (Paepys), which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. Paepys consists of the construction of a new production station on the Sanaga River in Batschenga (Central Region) and the construction of pipes for distribution. It will enable an additional daily production of 300,000 m3/d that can be extended to 400,000 m3/d. The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, said it will help close the drinking water supply gap in Yaoundé and its surroundings.

However, the Minister stressed that due to the current configuration of the capital's distribution network, the project will not benefit certain people. Hence the need to reconfigure the network and adapt it to the new production infrastructure.

Apart from Yaoundé, the Indian company WPIL signed in 2018, a contract for the design, rehabilitation, and construction of drinking water supply systems in 20 Cameroonian cities. This deal, which is to be implemented in the Central, Littoral, West, North-West, South-West, and South regions, is valued at CFA34 billion, according to the Ministry of Water and Energy.  Cameroon Business News

SODECOTON Hit CFA8.4bln Net Profit in 2021-2022

Cameroon’s cotton development corporation (Sodecoton) harvested a net benefit of CFA8.47 billion during the 2021-22 fiscal year, contrary to drastic  net fall for the past  years to the tune of CFA4.7.

The 2021-22 result is presented as the company's biggest performance over at least the past six seasons. The cotton industry in Cameroon seems to be reviving gradually after a sluggish period marked by the Covid-19 pandemic. Before the loss in 2020-21, the performance has been on an upward trend for three successive campaigns (2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020) following a cumulative loss of CFA36.5 billion during the 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17 seasons.

Sodecoton attributes the solid performance in 2021-22 to the favorable international situation around cotton prices, but above all to the recovery measures implemented in late 2016. "This recovery was achieved through the restoration of the company's industrial capacity, the improvement of the ginning capacity from 50% to 90%, and the capacity of the oil mills from 62% to 95%, between 2018 and 2021," said an official of the company.

“Also, to overcome the lack of electricity supply by Eneo, about fifteen generators were acquired, as well as 90 trucks for transporting seed cotton, 80 of which were purchased by the company and 10 donated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Minader), under the 3-years Emergency Plan (Planut). The rolling stock was strengthened between 2016 and 2021 through the acquisition of about twenty large trucks, civil engineering equipment (bulldozers, graders, tankers, dump trucks, loaders, and handling equipment),” another official said.

As a reminder, Sodecoton produced 329,021 tons of cotton during the 2021-2022 season, down 8.8% from the previous season.

2022 Cameroon Climate Justice Award Logo Out Finally To Ambassadors Against Climate Change

#CAM237MediaAction2COMBAT/ClimateChange#

Dropping in and in the news today Cameroon’s pioneer Media award Against Climate Change dubbed "2022 Cameroon Climate Justice Award" announced a month ago has let out an official Logo which will be inscribed on all the gadgets 1 weeks 5 days to the official ceremony.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday the 17th of September 2022 in Bamenda at Upstation Plush House GRA at exactly 10:00 am Prompt.

The occasion first of it’s kind and historic by appellation, shall be regrouping individuals, institutions and Organizations, who have selflessly put themselves at the disposal of nature and have tirelessly worked for mother earth.

Their individual and collective contributions year in year out to sustain and protect nature is what has preserved us all right up to where I am reporting.

It has never been heard of the Cameroon Media taking particular interest on climate and sustainable development issues, but we of WORLD ECHOES MEDIA GROUP have taken the challenge and all the pains to have all on board the global train of climate change actors and Climate Justice practitioners.

The effort is participatory and the venture is a war we must win or have ourselves to blame in the nearest future. It is not for nothing that climate change exigencies are far overbearing today? It is because while some have been working by harnessing and sustaining nature’s gifts others were busy destroying through bush fire, pollution, deforestation etc.

The whole idea as the D day approaches is to build up a circle, call it a circuit or better still a solid forum of development Activists who shall from thence champion a ceaseless crusade against climate change, promote sustainable governance and development.

It is only on that wave length or footing that mankind will pick up from where we have fallen prey in the hands of problems we consciously or unconsciously created for ourselves.

Join us on Saturday the 17th of September 2022 at Plush House GRA to celebrate Cameroon Ambassadors against climate change and promoters of sustainable development goals. It will be a come and see occasion. BE OUR GUEST AND WE SHALL WELCOME YOU WITH All HONOR AND RESPECT following Climate Justice Law in the Climate village.

Cameroon Government Intensify Crack Down on Liberation Promoters and Separatists Fighters: ✓Signs Fresh Warrant of Arrests after Liberation Fighters and Activists at Home and Abroad

✓ As War Deepens, Wanton arrest and torture of suspected supporters of separatist fighters in Anglophone Cameroon order of the day.

The Cameroon government has of late step up security measures to put restrain or contain the ever growing force or the wind of liberations blowing across Anglophone Cameroon.

The liberation war, call it better still a “guerilla war fare” which entails hitting and running, it must be noted, entering 2022 , six years after eruption, had taken another frequency or dimension. As those who pick up arms into the bush, to restore homeland, resorted to serial killings or artisanal bombing of government armored cars that has led to the killing of many Republican troops, many a people kidnapped, not to talk of serious material lots and damages.

To stop the deepening crisis that has led to the great lost of lives, the serious grounding of the economy, and worsen the situation of the Anglophone Regions in question, North West and South West, government’s higher defense and security counsel at the Presidency and intelligence of late, ordered the judicial security arm of the two Regions to sign fresh warrants of arrest to pick up all concerned directly or indirectly with the ongoing liberation war of independence by separatists forces.

To that effect, a dozen or a hand full of names were made know to the public  through a military signed press release early August,  7th, 2022 by Major General Nkah Valere of activists at home and abroad wanted plus family relations with their pictures to name; Chris Anu Tapang Ivo, Eric Tataw, Nso Foncha, Dr Sako Ikome,  Chris Anu, Prof. Carlsen Anyangwe,  Dr. Cho Ayaba,  Capo Daniel, Tafili Betrand Yimiseh, Mack Bareta, Nana Carlsen etc leaders and members of the UNO State, Briskanian movements, the Southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC), promoters and supporters of the deepening Abazonian liberation war hiding at home and abroad operating on the ground, sponsoring and fanning the war.

These persons and their mischievous under ground movements, shortlisted according to the press release, have done a lot to radicalize youths on the ground not only to rebel against the state, but have taken up arms against republican forces with all resilience.

As we report, security in sources, holds that crack down on these wanted persons, began in most of the hide outs of the activists in the suburbs declared red zones (Jakiri, Nkum, Mbiame, Below, Bafut, Bali, Widikum Batibo, Benakuma, Weh, Bambalang, Balikumbat, Ndop, Jakiri, Bambui, Kedjom keku and most of the border towns or countries they have fled to or into.

The situation has grown precarious to an extend that even parents of activists, properties, of late are been targeted for arrest or burning by elite forces and the “boys” as well.

Worst of it all is the serial killings going on either way, the wanton arrests and the outright kidnappings going on the ground. That alone makes the whole situation complex for the two English speaking Regions which has suddenly become inhabitable because of the serious security challenges.

The economy as we report is seriously grounded, the Regions ungovernable, schools, half opened half closed, schools, hospitals burnt down to ashes and even churches under attacks, some forcefully transformed into separatists camps or hide outs from where they ambush and rush back for safety.

The situation as we report has grown precarious and government is planning to institute a state of emergency in order to wipe out separatists forces, their sponsors, Supporter and promoters hiding in and out of the country, most especially as the separatists fighters have of late resorted to using artisanal bombs which recently bombed a convoy of army to Bui on attack mission in Ndop Sub-Division.
